Once known as the capital of the “dust bowl” state, Oklahoma City has transformed its image and its economy with a $100 million redevelopment of the once-dry river that runs through the city’s downtown core. Non-profit organization Riversport OKC is working hard towards its goal to ‘’share the outdoors’’ in life-changing ways. Their Boathouse District has become a community gathering place for families enjoying a weekend adventure, canoe/kayak and rowing enthusiasts, US Olympic athletes in training, corporate sponsors, and world-class racing events that attract athletes and spectators from around the world. We are happy to share the news that Riversport is now home to a brand new SkiMachine simulator!
Social impact of a center for sports and entertainment
A row of iconic university and community boathouses forms the foundation of Riversport’s Boathouse District which anchors the downtown development of the river. Riversport offers recreation and outdoor sports in an urban setting unlike any other thanks to their $45 million whitewater rafting and kayaking center, Riversport Rapids, and the stunning outdoor adventure park, Riversports Adventures, where all ages can enjoy a big variety of adventurous activities: a sky trail adventure course, zip lines, climbing walls, high-speed slides, pump tracks, and that’s not all! Rafting down the rapids, whitewater tubing, surfing, and boogie boarding are also on the list of endless possibilities for the real thrill-seekers! The aim of the non-profit organization Riversport is to make outdoor sports and recreation more accessible to both youth and adults who face all sorts of barriers in life – financial, cultural, and physical. Every dollar spent with Riversport helps them to ‘share the outdoors’ in a beautiful way.

Our endless ski slope in Oklahoma City
In the dry and flat state of Oklahoma, where no ski slopes are to be found, ski enthusiasts drive for at least 8 hours to ski resorts Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Angel Fire or Sandia Peak for a few days of skiing on the magical slopes. But from now on, skiing can be done closer at home with the first ski simulator in Oklahoma! We are glad to share the news that Riversport is in the possession of a brand new SkiMachine simulator! Ski OKC, located inside Riversport’s McClendon Whitewater Center, was made possible by a grant from Inasmuch Foundation and is launched to bring alpine skiing and snowboarding to Oklahoma City with an endless, articulating, and Pro-Snow-covered indoor ski simulator. Our new SkiMachine at Riversport features a quick inclination system that allows the slope level to switch from blue to the equivalent of black in a matter of seconds. Interactive slalom projections create the ultimate learning environment for skiers of all ages and abilities to brush up on their skiing technique in a playful and effective way. The advanced augmented reality features ensure the skiing experience will continue to expand as technology advances.
Looking for freestyle opportunities?
The additional ramp allows the adventurous skiers and snowboarders to practice their favorite jumps on the ski simulator!
Riversport’s efforts to provide numerous activities for the Oklahoma community to enjoy have led to the financial support of the Inasmuch Foundation needed for the realization of an endless skiing experience with a new SkiMachine at Riversport.
Riversport will be the first place in the world where you can snow ski, surf, and whitewater raft year-round, all in one location!
